Project Updates
Brief Project Overview – September 2024
We are pleased to provide an update on the wind farm project since receiving Project Approval. Below is a brief overview of the key developments:
→ Project Ownership
The Project has been owned by Maven Renewable Energy Pty Ltd since 2022.
→ Grid Connection
The proposed overhead line is seeking approval through a Review of Environmental Factors (REF) to Ausgrid. This is expected in late 2024.
→ Construction
Construction work physically commenced on site in December 2014, with the upgrade of the access road to Mountain Station to accommodate the construction and maintenance of the wind farm. This is expected to recommence in late 2025 and be completed by mid-2027.
→ Project Approval
The Project’s environmental assessment was submitted to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment in late 2008. The Project was granted Project approval on 31 January 2010.
What you can see in the picture above is a met mast. Met masts, or meteorological masts, are tall structures equipped with an array of sensors that measure wind speed, wind direction, temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure at various heights. They play a critical role in wind farm projects by providing precise and long-term meteorological data, which is essential for assessing the viability of potential sites, optimizing turbine placement, and predicting energy yield. Accurate measurements from met masts are fundamental to ensuring the efficient and effective design, development, and operation of wind farms.
Over the past 20 years, we have utilised met masts extensively in our project, collecting comprehensive data to evaluate the wind resource potential. This long-term data collection has confirmed the site as an excellent location for a wind farm, with consistent wind patterns and optimal conditions for energy production. The data has not only validated the site’s suitability but also helped us fine-tune our turbine placement and overall project design, ensuring maximum efficiency and energy output.
