Community Benefits

We believe that the flow-on benefits to communities of long-term electricity from renewable sources bring sustainable and better economic, health, environmental and social outcomes.

The Upper Hunter Energy Park is committed to sharing benefits with the local community. UHEP is working to re-establish local shared benefit schemes for the Project, including the Moobi Foundation and the Wanaruah Foundation.

The foundations foresee annual funding to be allocated to areas such as:

  • Education
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Community and culture
  • Environment
  • Aboriginal community initiatives
  • Growing business in the community.

Future funding and grants offered will be selected based on known community needs. All programs supported by the Project are seen as supplementing, not replacing existing programs available. The programs focus on supporting individuals, groups and businesses in the local areas around the Project.

The Project is expected to be operational for 25+ years. This long-term commitment ensures we continue to create employment opportunities during the operating and maintenance stages of the Project.
